Blended learning means that students learn from traditional methods and activities in addition to technology-based programs and instruction. In Our room, students have an opportunity, for example, to create traditional pencil to paper reading logs OR to blog about their findings. Furthermore, students explore fictional texts and current events articles online and then answer comprehension and depth of knowledge questions that ignite their curiosity and solidify their research and analytical skills. Blended learning works because:
1. It provides "just right" learning for students, based on their skill level and needs.
2. It expands learning time by making knowledge available anytime, nearly anywhere.
3. Blended learning prepares students for real life. Blogging, coding, and the need to quickly and efficiently obtain information are necessary 21st century job skills.
4. It frees the teacher to pull small groups or individual students for conferencing and specialized instruction.
5. This is simply the way kids learn these days! Almost everything they do from playing video games to communicating is in the form of technology!
